Chapter 3: What Kind of Person Am I to You? Eh?

Brad didn’t expose Susan’s predicament. He walked to his desk swiftly and put the photo frame into the drawer under Susan’s flashing eyes.
“Sorry to keep you waiting. I was in a meeting just now.”
His low and deep tone was magnetic and strong. He placed his suit jacket on the back of the chair. After taking a seat, he placed both hands on the table, his clear fingertips interlocked.
Susan smiled. “It’s alright. I can understand that Mr. Quin’s busy.”
As Susan spoke, she returned to the sofa. She didn’t know if it was an illusion, but ever since Brad entered, she felt that the temperature in the office had become colder.
“Why are you looking for me?”
Brad went straight to the point. His calm and quiet gaze was as far as the starry sky. His emotions also couldn’t be grasped.
Susan took a sip of water to moisten her throat. She tried her best to ignore his strong aura. She pinched her sunglasses and said, “I heard from my father yesterday that we are going to get married…”
Brad cherished his words like gold. When he heard her mention the marriage, he raised his thick and black eyebrows. “Yes. What are your thoughts?”
She didn’t expect Brad to ask this so directly. Susan wondered if she had revealed her true emotions.
Especially under his extremely deep pair of eyes which seemed to see through one’s soul.
Susan slowly straightened up and said, “Mr. Quin, I think this marriage is too sloppy. After all, we’ve only met for the second time today.”
“Sloppy?” With his sharp gaze, Brad half-laughed and said, “Three months ago, when both our families were discussing our cooperation, they had already decided on this marriage. Didn’t John tell you that those funds were part of the betrothal gifts from the Quin family?”
Susan exclaimed.
Part of the betrothal gifts… betrothal gifts…
These words rang in Susan’s ears and she suddenly had difficulty breathing.
It turned out that three months ago, her father already had ideas about this marriage.
That sum of funds was the betrothal gift. She was so silly to have come knocking on the door, trying to find a way to change things.
Susan’s face became pale but her eyes were full of stubbornness.
She looked at Brad and struggled. She asked tentatively, “Could a person like Mr. Quin be willing to accept a marriage arranged by his family?”
“What kind of person am I to you? Eh?”
The man dragged the last note lightly, like a stone falling in the lake causing waves of ripples.
Susan felt complicated and she became speechless.
Right. What kind of person was he? How would she know?
The absent-minded Susan collapsed her shoulders like she had lost her soul. There was nowhere to put the mixed emotions in her heart.
The silence in the office was restored, and it was so depressing that it made people feel uncomfortable.
“If Miss Yates is concerned about the marriage, it’s not as if there isn’t a solution.”
Brad’s words made Susan’s pretty peach-shaped eyes regain some vitality.
She looked up at him with an expectant look. “What’s the solution?”
Brad noted all her emotions. The corners of his lips curved and he picked up a document. Then, he said casually, “Return the funds to the Quin family and the marriage will naturally not proceed.”
Susan was speechless.
Although she had never run a company, she had never heard that funds could be refunded.
This man…
Knock, knock.
At this time, the office door was knocked on. Hans looked in and said, “Mr. Quin, Mr. Madison is here!”
“Ok.”
The man responded. He looked at Susan again, as if waiting for her answer.
Susan glanced at him silently. Then, she got up and bade farewell.
