Chapter 79: My Uncle Is Zhang Zhongfa
In the Donghai Hospital director’s office,
was hugging a shy little nurse in his arms. His face was full of wretchedness. The hospital had issued a notice earlier in the morning. He had officially got rid of the “Vice” in his title and became the director of the pediatrics department! He hadn’t slept for many nights, worrying about the director position. Since the truth had been unfolded, he had finally become the director, so of course he had to celebrate with his little nurse.
Just as he was about to reach out his hand on her, the phone on desk rang. After picking it up, it was actually from the vice president, which immediately froze Zhang Zhongfa; he pushed the nurse in his arms away. One must know that he was promoted with the help of the vice president.
“Zhang Zhongfa, do you have a nephew named Lu Ming working in our hospital?”
Before Zhang Zhongfa could say anything, a question was directed to him from the other end. Zhang Zhongfa immediately sensed that something was wrong, but he still answered.
“So all those things are true? Okay, the hospital will settle this matter soon. Your position as the director will be temporarily removed. I’ll get back to you when I’m finished!”
The deputy dean directly told him after verification, without giving him any chance to speak at all. Zhang Zhongfa instantly panicked. He had worked hard for that title, and his dream had finally come true. How could the deputy dean remove it just like that?
“This… Is there any misunderstanding?”
“Misunderstanding? Oh, do you know who called me? It was Dean Liu who told me personally! In fact, he was very angry, so I’ve no choice.”
Having that said, he couldn’t be bothered with Zhang Zhongfa anymore, so he hung up the phone. Zhang Zhongfa was in a daze. Dean Liu was an important person in Donghai Hospital. He rarely asked about the business of hospital. Why is he specifically targeting me now?
Thinking of that, he let the nurse go first. Then, he quickly called Lu Ming.
Lu Ming was just getting into his car to head back to the hospital. When he saw that his uncle was calling, he felt that it was odd, but he picked the call up anyway.
“Let me ask you, did you offend anybody?!” Without wasting any time, Zhang Zhongfa demanded.
Lu Ming was stunned for a moment, “I… No, I didn’t offend anyone!”
“You’d better think carefully! Did you offend anyone recently?! They even called the Dean!”
After listening to his uncle’s strange tone, Lu Ming had also guessed what might have happened. However, he really couldn’t recall if he had offended anyone. Just as he was about to speak, he suddenly recalled Xia Xiaomo.
Could it be her? But that’s impossible. Xia Xiaomo doesn’t have any background. If she can really contact the dean, then she wouldn’t need to look for me!
“Just… the classmate that I’ve told you about last time…”
“Hurry up and apologize to her, or else I’ll be dead, like you”
Zhang Zhongfa hung up the phone after finishing his sentence. Lu Ming sat in the car, confused and speechless. Of course, he didn’t think that things would be like that, all because of a taxi driver whom he had looked down since the beginning. But now… it was too late. His uncle and him were finished.
In the restaurant, Xia Xiaomo had been watching Su Qiubai talking over the phone. She simply couldn’t believe what was going on.
Liu Tianming was well-known in Donghai Hospital. He was over 60 years old now. How could a mere taxi driver randomly bring a stack of paper slips, with Liu Tianming’s contact actually written on one of them?
“Okay, it’s done. Save this number. If there’s any problem when you bring your niece there, just give him a call.”
Su Qiubai handed over the slip while telling Xia Xiaomo. Accepting it from him just felt surreal and unbelievable. The slip had Liu Tianming’s name, address and phone number written on it.
Why does it seem like a promissory note?
However, she immediately threw that outrageous thought away. How someone like Liu Tianming would signed a promissory note for others? Besides, Su Qiubai had such a thick stack of paper slips. It couldn’t be that all those were promissory notes from others?
How could that be!
“Is this really Dean Liu’s phone number?” After keeping the slip, Xia Xiaomo was still doubtful.
“Yes, he just said that the hospital will look into the matter. Anyway, you don’t have to worry about it, just quickly transfer the kid to the hospital.” With a grin, Su Qiubai picked up his chopsticks and continued eating.
“I… Thank you so much. I didn’t expect you to know Dean Liu.”
At that moment, Xia Xiaomo was finally relieved. She felt much more relaxed and her mood became better.
“Oh sure… We’re friends.”
Su Qiubai didn’t know how to explain his relationship with Dean Liu.
He couldn’t just tell her that the Dean actually owed him a favor and that the note was actually written by him. So were all those paper slips in his hand… That would be embarrassing!
After that, the two of them casually chatted, although their conversation was basically just Xia Xiaomo constantly thanking Su Qiubai while he just remained silent.
After feeling satisfied with the food, Su Qiubai stood up and planned to leave. He initially said that he would send Xia Xiaomo to the hospital, but she refused. The hospital wasn’t far from the restaurant, so she could just walk.
Su Qiubai didn’t insist after seeing that she was determined. After all, he still had more important things to do; the search for the energy crystal couldn’t be delayed, even for a moment. So the two headed on their separate ways after leaving the restaurant.
When Xia Xiaomo returned to the hospital, her niece’s family was waiting outside the ward. The child’s condition was very bad. But the point was that no one knew what was the root cause of her sickness was. That was the reason why Xia Xiaomo wanted to transfer her niece to Donghai Hospital.
“Xiao Mo, how is it? Is there any news?”
Spotting Xia Xiaomo, her brother, Xia Tian came over, followed by the whole family, who instantly surrounded her.
“The transfer has been arranged. We can send Xin Er to Donghai Hospital now!” Taking a deep breath, Xia Xiaomo replied.
The whole family was instantly ecstatic. Everyone had been nervous about the problem for days; otherwise, Xia Xiaomo wouldn’t have to contact Lu Ming.
“Your friend helped? Did he give you trouble?” Xia Tian was worried about his sister, so he didn’t hold back his questions.
“It’s okay. He didn’t help. It’s… another friend.”
Xia Xiaomo hesitated for a moment before replying, although she wasn’t sure if Su Qiubai was a friend or not.
“That’s good… I hope Donghai Hospital knows what to do.”
Xia Tian scratched his head in frustration, his voice filled with worry and pain.
“Brother, how did Xin Er become like this?”
She had pondered over the question for way too long, so she finally couldn’t resist and asked her brother.
“I don’t know. She was playing at the door that day. After a while, she told me that she picked up a red bead. I didn’t pay attention to it at that time. But after I came back, she became like this.”
Recalling the events of that day, Xia Tian spoke in a voice filled with sorrow.
“Red bead? Is it the red bead that caused Xin Er to fall sick?” Having heard her brother’s words, Xia Xiaomo guessed.
“I thought so too initially, but we’ve done all the checks on her. There isn’t any red bead in Xin Er’s stomach, so it should have nothing to do with her illness.”
At that moment, the family had packed up the things in the ward. Xia Tian stood up while speaking. Xia Xiaomo also turned to look at the little girl, who was laying on the hospital bed. She was such a cutie in the past, but now her eyes were shut tight, sweat rolling down her forehead, and her body was as hot as a soldering iron. Seeing Xin Er in that condition, Xia Xiaomo’s heart screamed in pain.
I really hope that someone in Donghai Hospital can cure her!
