Chapter 7: A Beggar? A Refugee?

Yet, this lousy system sure made it sound like a good thing: Avoid danger and ensure the safety of time-travelers!
Hmph, there was no consideration from the time-traveler’s perspective at all. Left in a completely unfamiliar place and without any directions, how was it possible to find a way to the destination?
Although Qin Yiling had time-traveled several times before, it had always been to her mother’s hometown. With her mother as a living map, she never needed to worry about the directions or routes at all.
Never mind that there wasn’t a guide, but at the very least, a map should have been given.
With absolutely nothing, how was she supposed to find her future partner?
“Whatever. I’ll just try any direction.”
She muttered to herself and walked down the left road.
After wandering along for twenty minutes, the surrounding landscape still looked mostly the same. It was still the same muddy path down the road, the same withered trees and grass, and not even a single tiled roof in sight.
This made her suspect whether the time tunnel had cheated her and dropped her off midway through her time-travel journey.
Just how desolate was this place?
“Oh~”
Qin Yiling halted in her tracks and held her breath to listen closely, as she thought she had just heard some rustling sounds. Instinctively, her sharp eyes darted to the dry grass by the road.
“Cough!”
Hearing that, she turned to look at the tall grasses on her right, her pupils constricting. It was a human voice!
Was there someone else in this wilderness?
Nice and slow, she took out a Swiss Army knife from her pocket, while keeping her gaze fixed on that area of grass.
“If the enemy doesn’t move, I won’t move. I can’t act rashly before I spot my target.”
Just as she was thinking about her next move, a hand with dry, cracked skin suddenly emerged from the grass, then dropped back to the ground.
“Cough cough~”
Qin Yiling’s eyebrows furrowed. It sounded like a woman’s voice, and she seemed to be in an extremely weak state.
This realization did not cause her to let her guard down. Still gripping on to the Swiss Army knife tightly, she walked slowly towards that area of grass.
When she reached the side of the road, she suddenly discovered a rod that was about 1.5 meters long. Her eyes were still fixed on the grass as she did not dare to be careless, only turning her body slightly to pick up the long rod.
Then, in a swift motion, she quickly pried apart the withered grass.
A woman covered in dust and dirt was lying in the grass. Her clothes were tattered and her face was dirty.
A Beggar? Or a refugee?
“Hello? Are you okay?”
The woman did not respond, but Qin Yiling was sharp-eyed and noticed her fingers moving, followed by her dark-purple lips trembling, as if wanting to say something but couldn’t.
Seeing that, Qin Yiling relaxed a little. Swiss Army knife in hand, she walked towards the woman and finally managed to take a proper look at her.
She had only one thought, that this woman was too skinny!
Looking at her tiny skeletal body, Qin Yiling wondered if this woman was even an adult.
Her small face too, was dull and sallow, with sunken cheeks, and her neck and wrists were completely bony. She probably didn’t have more than a few pounds of flesh on her whole body.
She looked exactly like a typical malnourished refugee!
Seeing that, the sense of alarm that Qin Yiling had felt was gone. Of course, it was normal for her to be more vigilant since she was now alone in this unfamiliar place. However, since this woman did not pose any danger, she was willing to help if she could. After all, she was not a heartless person..
