Chapter 6: The Desolate Wilderness

All Qin Yiling could see were the dry grass and the muddy road. She was surrounded by desolation.
Even the mountains in the distance had no green at all. The entire land seemed barren and bleak.
Within a thousand-meter-radius, there wasn’t even the shadow of a single bird, not to mention any humans. Also, each time a gust of wind blew over, the surrounding air immediately felt cold and chilling–an inexplicable eerie feeling.
Qin Yiling shuddered and reached to rub the goosebumps on her arms, realizing then that she was still carrying the bamboo suitcase in her hand.
“Sigh…”
Looking at the sole suitcase she had with her, she sighed resignedly, feeling glad yet regretful!
The four suitcases that her parents had packed did not come with her and she guessed that they would probably be feeling troubled about it for a while.
Still, it was fortunate that the time tunnel did not restrict her path completely, giving her some leeway at the very least, such that her own suitcase managed to pass through together with her.
Otherwise, she would definitely have imitated the way her mother cursed, ‘lousy system’!
Why was there always a bug in the system occurring randomly from time to time?
Just then, Qin Yiling seemed to remember something and set her suitcase down at once. She touched her neck, looked at her hands, then checked her pockets.
“Phew! Thankfully it’s still here. Hmph, at least you have a conscience.”
The gold jewelry and pearls were still on her. Immediately, she felt a wave of relief, and the despondency she had felt earlier about this terrible place slowly dissipated.
As long as she had money, this lousy place was not the end!
Suddenly, a cold wind blew past and Qin Yiling shivered again.
“Ah! It’s so cold!”
It was still April in the previous world so she was only wearing a white shirt and a pink cardigan, with blue pants, and a pair of white canvas shoes.
Before she left the house, she had even checked the mirror, making sure that her outfit wasn’t improper, nor was it too outlandish. It was a very ordinary outfit.
In any case, she had been quite satisfied with it. It was plain and simple, and the color combination of her clothes was quite fitting for a young and vibrant girl like her.
But the current weather was against it!
Now, she could distinctly feel the bone-piercing chill of the air around her. Even the breaths she exhaled looked like misty clouds.
Clearly, it was the winter season.
She didn’t have time to ponder further on the geographical climate. All she knew was that she was shivering all over and had to put on thicker clothes immediately, or she would freeze to death before she even found the man she was here for.
Qin Yiling opened her bamboo suitcase and took out a winter jacket to put on. This was not the time to care about matching the colors of her outfit anymore; keeping warm was of priority!
When she put on the winter jacket, she instantly felt like it was blocking the cold air from reaching her, and her body could feel a faint sensation of warmth.
As for her shoes?
Too bad, she had wanted to save time and trouble, so she only had the pair of shoes that were now on her feet. In her suitcase, she only brought four sets of clothing, one for each of the four seasons.
She had no choice but to bear with it for the time being.
Qin Yiling picked up her suitcase and walked to the main road. She looked to her left, then her right, and immediately started to fret.
To the left? Or right?
“This stupid system, couldn’t it make things simpler by bringing people directly to their precise destinations? Why did it have to leave me near the destination and have me find my way there on my own? How troublesome!
If she were to grade the system’s service, ugh, she would definitely leave a one-star bad review.
