Chapter 42: I’ll Be Waiting for You
“But what can I do? The winnings of the game were supposed to be donated to charity. I will have to fork out a hundred million dollars on my end as well. Why do I have to split the money with this girl?
“Also, that’s not really the problem here. The money means nothing to me, it’s just that…
“…it won’t be any fun if I give the money to her just like that.”
“Of course, I’ll definitely keep my promise to you. But when do you intend to fulfill your part of the promise to give me a day’s worth of your time?”
“You should go first. Don’t you have basic courtesy?” Bai Ran was really running out of patience now. She had already wasted too much time on this errand.
“I could have found the ring on the lawn by myself. It’s all because Quan Rui interfered. He insisted on helping me out and now he has snatched my ring away!
“If it wasn’t for his ‘help’, things wouldn’t have developed to this stage.”
Bai Ran bit her lower lip helplessly. She remembered that there was a saying that violence should always be the last resort, but she had already been sufficiently polite and courteous toward Quan Rui…
When Quan Rui realized that Bai Ran had managed to insult him without using a single vulgar word, he narrowed his eyes and responded in a deep low voice, “You’re reacting just like a porcupine.”
“You!” Bai Ran was truly infuriated now. She was about to tell him exactly what she thought of him when suddenly, a ringtone interrupted them with its chime.
The sound was coming from Bai Ran’s cellphone and it was a melody she recognized immediately
Bai Ran turned her head, looking in the direction of the sound and easily spotted her bag which had been placed on top of the coffee table.
When she came into the manor earlier, she had put her bag down on the table to wait for Quan Rui to finish bathing. Thankfully, her phone was kept safely inside her bag and did not get wet.
Bai Ran stooped to take out her cellphone from her bag and picked it up to see who called. As soon as she realized the one calling was her mother, she answered the call quickly,
“Mum? I’m heading home soon—”
Right as she said this into the receiver, she heard an unfamiliar voice at the other end of the phone asking, “Are you a family member of the owner of this cellphone? She was involved in an accident and is currently at the hospital. We need you to come down immediately.”
“What?!” Bai Ran was stunned, and her body instantly turned cold, as though she had been drained of all her energy. “Which hospital is this? I’ll head over right now!”
After the woman on the phone gave Bai Ran the hospital’s address, Bai Ran grabbed her bag and dashed out of the manor without another word.
It was as if Bai Ran had forgotten that she was talking to Quan Rui.
After Bai Ran dashed out, Luo Wei turned around and glanced at his Young Master, ready, should he decide to give him any instructions regarding Bai Ran.
Bai Ran’s behavior came as a great surprise to Luo Wei and her exit shocked him greatly.
Many people would go out of their way just to have a private moment with the Young Master. Miss Bai was clearly given the chance to be with him and she was even offered the opportunity to marry the Young Master. Yet she brushed it off brusquely with no hesitation and even demanded her share of their bet. On top of that, she left the Young Master behind with no apology or goodbye, heading off into the night without a word.
“This girl… Should I call her a foolish one? Or is it just her strong personality?”
Just as Luo Wei was debating Bai Ran’s personality, Quan Rui let out a weary sigh and said indifferently, “Go, send her off.”
“Yes, Young Master.” Luo Wei nodded his head in deference, as Bai Ran should have done before he turned and left.
“What’s more amazing is the fact that although Miss Bai left in such a rude manner, the Young Master is not the least bit angry. He even asked me to send her off.
“The Young Master definitely treats Miss Bai differently from all the others.”
Quan Rui stood alone in front of the huge French windows after Luo Wei left. He could vaguely see a snow-white silhouette dash off frantically in the pitch-black night.
“Bai Ran… Jiang Yuexi…
“The one whom I’ve set my sights on has to become a member of the Jiang Family.
The liquid in the cup swirled around gracefully, looking seductive in red. Quan Rui raised his head and finished the rest of his red wine in one shot.
“I’ll be waiting for you.”
Quan Rui still possessed something that not only belonged to her but was precious to her, so he knew without a doubt that she would definitely come looking for him again.
